Career Reflection Artifact
A Different Path
Explanation/Reflection
In a world where stethoscopes hummed,
And white coats were worn with pride,
My parents healed with steady hands,
In medicine, they did reside.
But in my heart, a fire burned,
Not for charts or patient calls,
But for the game, the thrill, the chase,
Where passion rises, and the ball falls.
No one around me knew that world,
Of stats and deals, of courts and fields,
Where numbers meet with dreams and drive,
And every match a fortune yields.
They told me paths were drawn in ink,
In hospitals, in labs, in care,
Yet I could see the stadium lights,
The crowd, the roar, the air was rare.
A doctor's hands were not my own,
Though I admired all they'd done,
For me, the game is where I thrive,
In finance, sports, I’ll make my run.
To navigate the deals, the stats,
And find my place where numbers sing,
I chase the goal, a new career,
Where passion and business both take wing.
Though my parents’ work still calls with love,
My heart beats in a different sphere,
For sports and finance call my name,
And I’ll answer loud, without fear.
When crafting this poem, I reflected on how I’m choosing a different path from my parents, who are both in the medical field, and from everyone I knew growing up. None of the people in my life had careers in the sports industry, but I’ve always had a deep passion for sports, and I’ve dreamed of making them a central part of my life for as long as I can. The title, A Different Path, stems from how people often assumed I would follow in my parent’s footsteps into medicine simply because of their careers. This poem reflects my choice to carve out my own journey—one that leads to the sports business, where my true passion lies.
