Core Story Set
Worked With Data
In my work as the Treasurer for Jacob's Closet & Emerald Mission, I recognized the need to optimize our spending to maximize the impact of both our fundraising efforts and program resources. By analyzing historical financial data and event budgets, I identified fundraiser efforts where spending was not yielding significant returns. I then developed a revised cost allocation plan for these fundraising events, reducing unnecessary expenses and redirecting funds toward high-impact activities.
Sharing these findings with the board, I proposed actionable strategies for improving financial efficiency while prioritizing resources for core mental health programs. These adjustments not only improved the effectiveness of our fundraising efforts but also enabled the organization to allocate more resources directly to expanding its mental health initiatives. This data-driven approach enhanced our overall impact and ensured greater alignment with our mission.
During a school sports business trip to Los Angeles and Las Vegas, I had the chance to visit renowned organizations like the LA Rams, LA Clippers, Wasserman, and Excel Sports Management. While the trip included structured networking sessions, I took the initiative to go beyond the planned activities to build personal connections. Before the trip, I researched each organization and prepared thoughtful questions tailored to their expertise. During our visits, I actively engaged in conversations, asking about career paths, industry challenges, and advice for breaking into the sports business field.
After the trip, I followed up with personalized emails to thank the professionals and maintain the connections I had made. These efforts resulted in meaningful conversations, actionable advice, and ongoing communication with several professionals. By taking initiative, I not only expanded my network but also gained valuable insights that helped shape my career aspirations in the sports industry.
Took Initiative
Leadership
As a varsity football player at Washington University in St. Louis, I know that incoming underclassmen often face challenges balancing the demanding dual roles of student and athlete. To ease their transition, I helped mentor several first-year teammates, helping them navigate academic and athletic expectations. I worked with them to create study schedules, introduced them to campus resources, and shared personal strategies for managing time effectively. On the field, I led them through training routines, explained play strategies, and offered encouragement to build their confidence.
Beyond supporting current teammates, I also contributed to recruiting efforts by helping lead campus tours for prospective athletes. During these tours, I answered questions about academics, athletics, and campus life, emphasizing our team’s supportive and inclusive culture. These efforts not only helped underclassmen succeed in their first year but also strengthened our program by fostering a cohesive team environment and attracting talented recruits.
As Treasurer for Jacob's Closet & Emerald Mission, a nonprofit focused on improving mental health support, I work closely with the board to organize fundraising campaigns to expand our reach. Our daily operations require constant collaboration to balance creative strategies with financial practicality. I contributed by managing the financial aspects, providing detailed projections, and ensuring the budget aligned with our objectives.
I encouraged open communication within the team throughout the planning process, valuing diverse perspectives to enhance our strategy. I also helped coordinate marketing materials that effectively conveyed our mission to donors. By working together, we not only met but exceeded our fundraising goals in 2023 and 2024, enabling the nonprofit to expand its mental health initiatives. My ability to collaborate with the team ensured our efforts were aligned, blending creativity, logistics, and financial planning for a successful campaign.
